PROBABLY THE COOLEST HAIR CUT IN THE WORLD!
Sir Tom Farmer invited Charlie Miller to join him on 11th April for a trip to the North Pole and got the coolest hair cut of his life!!
The pair travelled to the North Pole for a 7-day trip with the great British adventurer and explorer David Hempleman-Adams where they also hope to have set a new world record whilst raising money for charity.
Initially flying to Longyearbyen, one of the world's northernmost towns, the party then flew from the Russian Hanger at Svalbard Island in the Arctic Circle to Ice Camp Barneo where, in preparation of their excursion, they spent a few days cold-weather training and had a survival talk from the Base Commander about safety and living at the base. Following a day and a half’s acclimatisation where temperatures dropped as low as -35° they then flew by helicopter to the North Pole where the hair cut took place on 16th April.
Charlie decided to use the trip to raise funds for charity when Sir Tom agreed to Charlie’s offer to do the world’s first hair cut on the Pole with all money raised going to the Teenage Cancer Trust for the supply of real hair wigs to young patients in Scotland. The Teenage Cancer Trust charity has been supported by Sir Tom and Charlie for a number of years with Sir Tom raising money to help fund equipment for the specialised TCT hospital units and Charlie namely in the styling of real hair wigs for teenage cancer patients.
"This was an adventure of a lifetime", says Charlie Miller, “and one Tom and I will never forget.
It wasn’t the ideal place for cutting hair but a great opportunity to help the Teenage Cancer Trust. Although I’d been doing NHS-supplied fibre wigs for adults for many years, my work in cutting and styling real hair wigs for teenagers and young people with cancer has become my absolute focus. The more involved I became the more deeply I felt the devastating effect hair loss has on a young person and how important it is to their wellbeing to have a wig that really belongs to them”.
